Bonds in a Bind
Tuesday, May 6th, 2008An article on MLB.com describes the latest news on Bonds:
Former Giants slugger Barry Bonds has asked the Players Association to consider filing a grievance on his behalf because Major League Baseball’s all-time home run leader has been unable to sign a contract as a free agent for the 2008 season.
In his behalf, the union has contacted the Commissioner’s Office seeking information about why Bonds hasn’t even been extended an offer.
I, for one, am quite happy to read this news. There had been speculation as to whether Bonds was interested in returning to baseball – most people thought he was content to stay away, out of the spotlight. Why anyone would think that is beyond me. Bonds wants glory and praise. He wants people to KNOW he’s the best (let me stress that he is not). The fact that he is actively trying to find a team that will LET him play – and the fact that no one wants him (the team he was with the longest, the Giants, have expressly stated that they don’t want him back) – puts a big smile on my face. It figures that he thinks there is a conspiracy against him (and is taking legal action against MLB), but the idea is just laughable. If there were going to be a conspiracy, it would have (should have) happened before he became the all-time homerun leader. Anyways, I just thought I would share this.
